I had to get up super early yesterday– 6am. I admit it, though, that I did press the sleep button and get an extra nine minutes. At 6:11, I pulled myself most unwillingly out of bed and went in for a shower that did nothing at all to refresh and awaken me. I felt like I was in a daze all morning. I should have made myself coffee, but I didn’t. I also refused to give Starbucks $4.00 of my money for a small cup of coffee no matter how delicious and invigorating it may be.
Instead, I went to the library to get a book, printed something out, made sure my laptop was registered in the ODU Wireless Network, then went to my first class. Yes. The dreaded 402W. All we did was sit around and discuss the articles that we had to read and wrote upwards of 1,500 words about. Yes, a pretty relaxed atmosphere considering the daunting nature of what lies within that class. Its seedy underbelly.
I am trying to get as much done as soon as possible so that I don’t drown in it. That means doing my article analysis and book essay now. If I do them now, I won’t be swamped in October when they are due because I will have tons of other things from other classes due then, too.
My other two classes were uneventful. “Look, rice.” “Look, pottery.” “Look, Cuneiform.” Bleah. It was just my luck, though, to wind up sitting next to the class know-it-all in European History… you know, that ugly guy who is quick to yell out every answer before anyone else can, who asks pseudo-philosophical questions even though he doesn’t even have the slightest clue what Historiography is, and thinks that all his witty and ‘insightful’ historical comments are entertaining and educational to the class.
I hope he didn’t hear my, “Thank you, Captain Obvious.” When he said in response to the transparency on the screen, “A map.”
Yes, dick, we could see it was a map by the clear arrangement of squares as buildings and lines as streets.
I don’t think he got my addition to his ever-intelligent relation of Zoroastrianism to Christianity, though. When discussing the details of Zoroastrianism, facts I have by now embossed onto my brain, that it was the first religion with a concept of Good versus Evil, he blurted out another statement of obviousness, “similar to the major world religions.” (Which, for the record, is not true… Buddhism and Hindu are both major world religions, distinctions are found only if they are considered universal religions or not such as Buddhism yes, Hebrew no.) My reply was, “And Shakespeare.”
But, I don’t think he knew what I was talking about.
I came home and did nothing. Brian called and we made tentative plans to meet for lunch on Monday between my third and fourth class. Then, my sister came over and we watched Ethan and made dinner. Because of this, I did nothing that I intended to do by way of school assignment.
That just means I will have to work extra hard…
And like I asked below: does anyone have any suggestions other than coffee for energy? Some sort of vitamin or food with vitamins that you know to work?
