He says that under Christianity, the dignity of women was determined by God, not by man. Virginity was prized as opposed to the standard that all Roman women had to marry and have Roman babies…
Yet, I can’t see anything better in Christianity than in the Roman social structure. How can this be better for women when men dominated the very structure of the church, too? How was this an escape from a male dominated world when they were really leaving one only to enter another? God is a male figure, certainly not sexless. When God is referred to, it is as a ‘He’ or ‘Him,’ not as an ‘It.’
And, what is the use of living if there is no sex?

It’s comments like this that remind me, best friend you may be to me, there are times I just have to shake my head.
As the celibate and probably going to remain that way friend, I’ll tell you what the use is. Living.
Sure, sex is fun and enjoyable, but it’s a fleeting moment of pleasure that you have to constantly seek out, like a drug. It fades within hours.
But there are other things in life, faith, beauty, a simple moment of pure, silent joy, watching a bleeding, golden sunrise as it crests the far forest hills and glistens off the damp dewed grass that can last far longer.
I’m sitting here, enjoying such a sunrise, with nothing more then my cats, my fags, my laptop and that bleeding golden sun, and I know this pleasure will last until I got to bed tonight. Sure, the rest of life may intrude, I might remember that I’m in love with a man I haven’t spoken to in almost a year, that my mother and I currently can’t be in the same room without screaming at each other…but all I need to do is think about that sunrise again, remember that gem-like beauty across the sky and the pleasure will return.
Then again, this is coming from a woman who can’t recieve physical pleasure from sex so maybe I’m bias.
