So, Alfee expresses a desire to own the old SimTower game, an old Maxis game pre-The Sims. According to him, he played it a lot when he was younger and loved it. I find a copy of it for really cheap on eBay and I buy it for him. He needs something else to do while sitting around my house when I am working.

I get the game yesterday, I install it. Yey.

I am happy because I rarely get to give him anything. Not only am I still categorized as a poor and almost broke college student, but he very rarely ever expresses a desire to own anything. When he does state something he wants, I try to make a mental note of it so that I can file it away for gift giving opportunities. This one, I decide to get him for the hell of it. I mean, look at the list of things he has bought me so far:

  • DVD Player
  • iPod Nano
  • Laptop/Printer/Router
  • Multiple pairs of shoes
  • Clothes/Purses/Manga
  • Rome Boxsets / Masters of Horror Set
  • New Monitor

Etc, etc. That is not a complete list because he is always buying me small things here and there like movies or taking me out to dinner or movies.

Really, I am spoiled. Alfee spoils the shit out of me. All I can give him in return in sex. And really, I also get the sense that it’s more for me than for him, too.

I know, I know, I’m lucky. He even tucks me into bed.

So, I get him SimTower.

Go me! I got him a present.

And then he calls me up to tell me that he bought ME a present.

An 80Gig iPod.

See the inequality here? I spent $10 on him and he spends $200 on me.

Recently, I received a sample of naked naturals shampoo and conditioner in the mail. I got the Awapuhi and Lavender shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair.

awapuhi and lavender naked naturals

Reading the package that I got in the mail, I instantly liked that Naked Naturals products are made without chemicals or synthetic fragrances. Another selling point for me is that the Naked Naturals line is not tested on animals. The natural shampoo and conditioner are PH Balanced and use natural ingredients to make the hair up to 7% stronger. My hair is so fine and thin that I look for products that can increase its strength to minimize breakage. The day I got it, I tried it out. As soon as I opened the sample, I loved the smell. To me, it had the smell of a really good relaxing tea. I’m so used to the hard and strong fragrances of other shampoos that the smell was definitely refreshing. So, I washed my hair, applied the conditioner, and rinsed completely. When I got out of the shower, I grabbed my blow dryer and dried my hair. Usually, my hair will poof up with frizz if I use a blow dryer. However, this time my hair was smooth and soft. I even asked a few people how my hair looked and they were all impressed with how silky it looked. After running my fingers through my hair, I can feel how clean it was. I slept on my hair and it was still great in the morning. My second usage today was the very same. My hair is beautiful, soft, and without any frizz or flyaway. This is new to me! My hair is terrible to control! However, Naked Naturals has done wonders with my hair.

I will definitely be using the coupon with the sample to purchase more.

If there is one good thing…

If there is one good thing about being on my feet all day, it’s the fact that the pounds are dropping.  I have already lost about five pounds this month and a half due to racing around a school, a classroom, and standing on my feet giving my oh-so-interesting lessons.  The schedule has become increasingly rigorous because now I also have the AP World History classes and they have a very fast pace.  Just keeping up with it to create the lesson plans and notes is really, really stressful.  But, I keep counting down the days.  If I can just keep my head above water, I can get through it.  My mid-term period just passed; I just hit the seven week mark.  Now, it’s more a wind down to the end since I am half way done.

I should be getting my VLCA scores soon.  That is my last test for this program.  So far, I have my multiple choice scores, which I did very well on.  Now, I am just waiting for  my essay and short answer scores since those are graded by hand by someone on the board.  I don’t want to have to take the test again, especially because I will have to wait 90 days and that would put me seriously behind in schedule.

I’ll report back with that.

I’ve come to realize that though I am indeed a history lover, a history teacher, and a history buff…

There are just some parts of history that I hate.

There is boring history, history that even bores the crap out of someone who is dedicated to it.

An old teacher emailed me, my Teaching in Social Studies Methods teacher, and asked me if I would be interested in coming to speak to one of her classes in April about my teaching experiences. I wonder if I should. I need to decide in the next few days so that I can email her and make arrangements of when to come.

Oh, the stories I can tell.

Why did the female oyster break up with the male oyster?

Because they had a spat.

Be Oyster Aware informs visitors of the potential risks of eating raw oysters. The site describes specifically how those who consume raw oysters are at risk of getting the Vibrio vulnificus infection. At Be Oyster Aware, you can see if you are an at risk consumer. At risk consumers include individuals with liver disease, diabetes, cancer, or weak immune systems. And those aren’t the only groups, so it’s vital that any oyster consumer visits the site to see if they are at risk. And for the oyster lover, Be Oyster Aware includes a section of recipes on how to prepare oysters such as the Gulf oysters.

A Night of Nightmares

From time to time, without any real warning or stimulation, I have entire nights of nightmares and sleep paralysis. And I am not just talking about one or two a night. I am talking an entire night of these things.

It’s a horrible experience.

I wake up from one nightmare to the sleep paralysis. I can easily accept a nightmare before sleep paralysis because a nightmare ends when you wake up. You can shake off a nightmare, you know it’s a dream, and you go back to sleep comforted by all of those familiar things around you illuminated in the dark when the nightmare wakes you. With sleep paralysis, though, you ARE awake but you’re trapped. You’re in the real world, staring at your familiar closet door, walls, ceiling, dressers, various decorations and messes. This IS your waking world, your reality, those things that are meant to comfort you by their familiarity. But in a state of sleep paralysis, these things are threatening and shadowy.

Imagine waking up without the ability to move a muscle. You cannot even so much as move a finger. Sometimes you can’t even breathe. You want to talk, to call for help so that someone can rouse you. Even to see a person walk in would probably change this waking hallucination into something far brighter. But, you can’t get a word out. You strain, you try to scream, you feel the pressure in your chest and throat as noise tries to force itself out.

Nothing. No noise. Sometimes a whisper; sometimes not a sound.

It’s dark and there are strange sounds. There are whispers, screams, electronic noises like a constant reverberation in the background.

And then there are figures. I’ve seen strange golem like creatures, figures in cloaks, gray women who whisper things to me that I can’t remember afterwards. This time where were two blurry yellow figures. They had human like shapes, but not.  They were stationary but would slip out of my sight when I tried to turn my eyes to see them.

That’s what makes sleep paralysis so awful. These hallucinations and sounds enter your real word and you’re helpless. There’s a constant feeling of helplessness and fear. You just want someone to save you.

I hope that everyone had a great Valentine’s Day! Alfee and I couldn’t spend the day together because of our work schedules, but we were able to get together on Saturday for the weekend. Then we exchanged presents and kisses and all of that sweet stuff that couples are supposed to do.

We didn’t go out or anything that night. We were supposed to, but Alfee’s car was having some troubles (he has a Nissan Xterra) and he was totally paranoid about driving it. Secretly, I sort of resented that because I really wanted him to take me out. I mean, I had spent the past few days stuck in doors. I wanted to be out, doing things, and relaxing. I decided not to complain even if I was disappointed because his car is more important than my selfish needs. Though, by the way, his car turned out to be nothing. No damage, just needed a full fluid change and stuff.

I got Alfee a Godzilla boxset. I’ll be damned to remember what movies are on there because they had, like, three or four box sets with all of these different movies and I didn’t know which one to get! I chose one at random based on a faint recollection of a name I remembered him saying once. Luckily, it was one that he did want. The problem with buying him any gift is that he never claims to want anything. So, I have to fumble in the dark for a possible gift for him because he never hints as to anything he wants. Me, though, all I do when we go out to the mall is point to thinks and say that I want them.

Alfee got me to the Masters of Horror Season 1 Boxset. I LOVE it. A collection of 13 horror movies complete with the Takashi Miike film Imprint that was never shown on actual TV because it was claimed to be too disturbing. The movies themselves are not more than an hour apiece, so I can fit one in every night before bed. Always a good thing to fall asleep to, scary stories. I’ve watched two of the movies so far… the one about the two serial killers who are playing a game together and the one about the house haunted by that witch who travels from one dimension to the next and has that rat familiar with the human face. Totally sick looking.

He also got me some yummy dark chocolate candies. I was happy to see that he remembered that I absolutely hate those crappy chocolates people get around Valentine’s Day in those stupid hearts. That’s not good candy. It’s shitty chocolate with nasty tasting centers. So, since he listened, Alfee did not get me any of those. Instead, he got me something I WOULD like. It doesn’t matter that they came in bags instead of a cardboard heart. It was tons better because it was something I liked.

What else?

Oh! A Domo plushie.

Okay. Time for me to wrap up my lesson making and get to bed. I don’t know why, but today was an exhausting day and I wish that I could sleep in tomorrow. Yes, sleep ALL day. Wake up, watch pointless TV shows, eat junk, and nap whenever I feel like it. Alas. No such luck, right? I could only wish. It’s early mornings and long days for me. I refuse to go to sleep, though, until I get all of these notes on Nationalism for Monday. I am trying to stay as ahead of the curve as possible so that I still have my entire weekends to work on my portfolio. I’ve not gotten as much done in that as I would like because I have been so busy with lesson planning and such.

Goodnight everyone.

Tell me what you did for Valentine’s Day! I want romantic stories.

Even though I own this blog, dedicated to the purpose of exposing my life to a variety of readers, my identity is very important with me. With online purchasing, the fast spread of information over the internet, and how dependent we are on credit cards, the safety of identity is easy to compromise. However, you can do something to protect your identity by using lifelock. Lifelock will alert credit companies and establish a fraud alert on your account and credit reports will be ordered for you. Having Lifelock means that whenever anyone tries to do something with your credit, even you, you will be contacted to approve the order. That means no one can do anything with your credit without you knowing.

I have decided to participate in the 28 Books in 2008 challenge. For me, it is incentive to finally dig into those piles of books that I have yet to touch. They have been lining my walls for so long that they seem like just decoration now.
