All the ETC:
In order to become a teacher, you have to pass three tests (which you have to pay for out of pockets, those fleecing bastards): Praxis I, Praxis II, and VCLA. I’ve taken both of the Praxis tests, one which is a reading/writing/math test and the other a content area specific test for social studies. They were both passed and out of the way before I began my student teacher internship.
So, a friend and I both signed up to take the VCLA about a week and a half ago. Our scheduled times varied from 11-12:30 (I had the 12:30 appointment) n a Saturday, which was fine with me because I knew that Alfee would take me out to eat afterwards. That’s always a good incentive to getting out of the house. I really loathed to wake up early on a Saturday what with how exhausted I am after a week of teaching, but it has to be done in order to be completely certified, which I want to be by the time I am done with internship so that I can get a contract somewhere.
Anywho, I log on tonight and in my email box are my ‘unofficial scores’ (unofficial because they are sent special in the mail, I suppose). My total score was a 560. A score of 470, I believe, is the minimum passing. So, I was well above the minimum score.

Having to wake up early on a saturday really sucks… but it’s a good thing that you did! and you feel better afterwards, don’t you? Like you actually did something with your day instead of just lying around on the couch :p
Congratulations on the good scores!

Congratulations! An achievement indeed. Most of my friends are English Secondary Education majors, and a couple of them have been studying and stressing non-stop. Tomorrow is the first test date for the PCMAS (that’s what they’re called over here, but it’s the exact same thing), and I feel their pain!
Luckily, I’m not planning on becoming a teacher anytime soon — but I *am* going to Graduate School, so I did my own share of test-taking this semester. I received my official GRE scores about a week ago, and was so proud of myself — I got a 600! The most you can get is an 800 and I was expecting a 480-500 mark, so this was definitely a pleasant surprise.
Once again — congratulations!
Congrats on passing your test! :3 I hope you enjoy your student teaching, as well.

It’s nice to see other people that have direction. We need more people wanting to be teachers, to mold the youth. You have fun with that! Good Job!

Congrats on getting above passing! Lol, an unofficial score.
To maximize your score on the VCLA, you can take the Writing and Reading Subtests on different days and use as much of the 4 hours for each subtest that you want (a maximumof 8 hours for the two subtests). If you take the computerized tests, you can pick the time of day for the test to take it during your more alert times.
