I love cherry blossoms.  I like how they look, how they smell, how the petals fall, and I even love the sakura song.  Hell, it’s the default ringtone on my phone.  But, it was time for a change.  It takes me a little while to change themes, obviously, due to my large number of plugins.  I have to make sure that everything fits with the layout.  It’s quite an arduous task, but I knock it out pretty good if I work steadily.  I just can’t let myself get distracted by anything like TV or games or anything else that is apt to pull me from a set task. Surprisingly, everything went really smoothly.  I hit one small glitch, but a quick Google search fixed the problem right up.

I also went ahead and put up some of the textures that I made but hadn’t had the patience to thumb up and then upload and finally insert.  My laziness knows no bounds, I know.  All of my textures are over in my Deviant Art page, but who goes there, right?

The Dragon Emperor comes out today!  I am going to take my mom on Wednesday because… well, free popcorn and $5 tickets.  She’s really excited about seeing it and I am, too.  Granted, I didn’t like the other Mummy movies, but I think that I will like this one if only for Jet Li.

Ah!  And guess what?  My sister came over with my nephew and he can walk now!  He is a little over a year and he’s taking steps on his own.  He likes it when you hold your hands and arms out to him; it makes him feel safe to know that you’ll catch him if he falls.  His steps are really jerky and shaky, but he’s doing it!  It was so adorable to watch him walk from my sister to my mother.  And you can totally tell by his face that he knows he’s doing something that everyone is eating up.  He’s so totally proud of himself.  I can’t believe how grown up he is getting.  It seems like only yesterday he was a wrinkly newborn who did nothing but sleep and cry.  It feels like not too long ago that he first discovered his tongue and liked to stick it in and out.  Now he’s doing all those big boy things like walking.

I live right on the Chesapeake Bay, which means LOTS of blue crabs, oysters and clams. I’m a big fan of steamed blue crabs.  You can get blue crabs directly out of the water yourself with only one or a few crab traps baited with cheap chicken necks. Fortunately, because where I am at, seafood is very prevalent and easy to get. It is easy for us here to use domestic, local, fresh seafood if we so desire because we can just get on a boat or pier and catch it ourselves. Using local domestic products encourages resource sustainability, which is important in this day and age where we must consider what we will leave for future generations to live on.

How we do a good blue crab it around here is we lay out newspaper, put the crabs in the center, place a few piles of Old Bay seasoning around at strategic places and dig in. It’s a symphony of cracking, shelling and chewing. With what is left over, you bread and fry for home made crab cakes. But there is so much that can be done with a good blue crab if you have a little bit of creativity. I would like to take the crab and make a thick, creamy crab and potato soup, maybe spice it up a bit with some hot pepper flakes and kale. What do you guys think? What is something really tasty that someone can do with a blue crab?

I think that if I could make my soup, it would be a pretty awesome entry for the Great American Seafood Cook off 2008, which is going to be held in New Orleans, Louisiana from August 2nd to August 3rd. The cook off will feature 5 of the most popular culinary experts who will face off using domestic, sustainable seafood recipes to promote the “positiveness of domestic seafood sustainability,” encouraging the use of seafood of which “the source is known, it is local and fresh.” I can’t wait to see what these masters come up with! I know Alfee would love to check out the competition, too, because he’s all about food and recipes. No doubt these food masters will come up with some really delicious and creative domestic seafood dishes.
